Hi Kathy,
When I turned the runner inside out, I topstitched around the rings between them and the background fabric. That’s what formed the “binding”. When you sandwich your 3 pieces together to sew them, make sure they are all lying flat and use a walking, or even-feed foot to help you sew without any puckers. I hope this helps.
